Mississauga Steelheads set to host game night in support of Special Olympics Ontario

The Mississauga Steelheads, LETR, Special Olympics Ontario and Peel Police are teaming up to raise awareness about the importance of individuals with an intellectual disability during an upcoming Steelheads’ home game.

The Steelheads game on November 20, 2:00 PM at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre will feature:

  • A LETR/Special Olympics Ontario-run kiosk so fans can learn more about Special Olympics Ontario
  • Public address announcements about Special Olympics Ontario
  • Puck toss and other special concourse initiatives

The awareness campaign is part of the ongoing commitment by the Ontario Hockey League, the Steelheads and LETR/Special Olympics Ontario to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics Ontario.

“Special Olympics Ontario (SOO) thanks the Mississauga Steelheads and Peel Regional Police for their ongoing support of the movement. Since 2007, teams across the Ontario Hockey League have supported SOO with OHL Big Ticket Games which provide much needed funds and awareness to 26,000 athletes living in Ontario with intellectual disabilities. Together, we champion inclusion, acceptance and offer opportunities to many athletes in the Region to participate and thrive in sport. Thank you!”

Glenn MacDonell, President and CEO of Special Olympics Ontario

Motionball will also be in attendance on November 20th, with a table on the concourse and an intermission performance from a Special Olympics athlete. Motionball is a national not-for-profit organization whose mandate is to introduce the next generation of donors, volunteers and sponsors to the Special Olympics movement through integrated social and sporting events.
