What’s on Your Summer Agenda? Mississauga’s Got Your August Covered

This summer’s agenda is easy, fun and in many cases, free. Add these nature, art, foodie and fitness events and activities in Mississauga to your staycation or weekend calendars this August.

Keep the kids occupied and cool with play and a story time reading

Check out Mississauga Library’s wide range of books, programs, activities and live performances. Explore the TD Summer Reading Club and the Summer Library Challenge for a chance to win prizes.

Plan the evening’s menu and nibble on fresh, local treats at the Farmers Market before treating the kids to Open Air Storytime Wednesday mornings from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Celebration Square.

On those hot days, visit one of our many Mississauga parks with spray pads or visit our outdoor wading pool at Celebration Square. Find more parks near you with amenities like accessible playgrounds, gardens, picnic areas, washrooms, dog leash-free areas, BMX-mountain bike facilities and others.

For the older kids, choose a drop-in Fun Swim or visit an outdoor pool with times and locations most convenient for the family.

Eat, dance and move

Prepare to marvel at the arts, eat delicious traditional food and dance it all off at the cultural festivals at Celebration Square:

  • Egyptian Coptic Festival, August 27 – 28

Watch a film under the stars

Bring a blanket, snacks and friends to Movie Nights on Thursdays from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at Celebration Square. This year’s themes are dinosaurs, wizards and superheroes.

Reflect and learn at art and film exhibitions

Visit the To What Degree: Canada in a Changing Climate art exhibition from noon to 4 p.m. every Thursday through Sunday at Bradley Museum’s Anchorage Gallery.

Attend Pulse: A dialogue through film exploring anti-Asian racism, twice daily from Mondays to Thursdays, 2 to 2:30 p.m. and 6 to 6:30 p.m. at Celebration Square.

Inhale, exhale; get among the trees on City trails

Mississauga has great trails to log some kilometres in peaceful and natural settings right in the city.

Explore these two longer trails (15 – 20 km): Waterfront Trail starts at Lakefront Promenade Park and runs parallel to the Lake Ontario shoreline. The David J. Culham Trail starts at Erindale Park on Dundas Street West, just east of Mississauga Road, follows the Credit River and passes by remnants of old homesteads, orchards, dams, rail and mill sites ending in Pinecliff Park.

For shorter excursions, try the 10 km Burnhamthorpe Trail from Loyalist Drive to Garnetwood Park, an uninterrupted path through downtown Mississauga with links to three more trails.

Try two trails under 5 km: Cooksville Creek Trail beginning at Richard Jones Park – a quiet escape amidst the busy downtown scene and Lake Aquitaine Trail through scenic Lake Aquitaine Park.

We want to pump you up…in City fitness classes

Don’t wait until January to jump-start your fitness routine. Add free Fresh Air Fitness classes to your weekly mix on Tuesdays, 7 to 8 p.m. in Celebration Square.

If Tuesdays don’t work, pick from the many drop-in fitness programs at community centres across Mississauga. Simply pay for the session you want to attend.
